Our staff at Kentuckiana Animal Clinic will be glad to work with you on any of your pet's needs. We have answers to your questions on flea and heartworm protection, vaccinations, spay and neutering surgeries, special dietary needs, grooming and boarding concerns and much more. Our Owensboro hospital is equiped with state-of-the-art equipment to offer quality care and our staff is dedicated to uphold that quality in the care of your pet.



Dr. William Purdy, DVM

A native of Owensboro, KY., Dr. William A Purdy attended undergraduate studies at Western Kentucky University before completing his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University in June of 1973. He joined the Kentuckiana Animal Clinic team immediately afterwards and had been here ever since. Dr. Purdy has special interests in reproductive medicine and dentistry. In his leisure he can be found enjoying duck hunting and fishing, he also shows and raises Dandie Dinmont Terriers.


Dr. Laura Boarman, DVM

Dr. Laura Boarman is a native of Owensboro, KY. After completing her undergraduate studies at Western Kentucky University, she attended Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine graduating in 2010. She actually joined the Kentuckiana family early in her high school days as an assistant and continued to work with us into her college years. We were pleased to welcome her back as a veterinarian after graduation. Her professional interests are in dentistry, preventative medicine and dermatology. In her spare time she enjoys camping and hiking with her husband Adam and sons, Eli and Cole. Dr. Boarman has an Australian Shepherd named Belle and two cats, Penny and Woodrow, that round out her energetic family.


Dr. Leah Basham

Dr. Basham is originally from Cloverport, KY, she completed her undergraduate at Western Kentucky in 2005 and her doctorate of veterinary medicine at Auburn University in 2009. She has practiced both in general and emergency hospitals in Evansville, IN and Lexington, KY. She has special interest in emergency medicine as well as ultrasound. In her free time she enjoys, camping, kayaking, and spending time with her husband, Brian, her son, Knox, and her “fur” kids: Stella (Pomeranian), Wylie, and Tater.


Dr. Rachel Dunaway

I grew up outside Dixon, KY in Webster County. Growing up we always had at least one dog in the house and had several other pets, including a hamster, two birds, several fish, and a few cats. I currently have a two year old Rough Coated Collie named Scout, a 4 year old Guinea Pig named Moe, and a 3 year old Holland Lop rabbit named Mazie. I am a runner, often running with my dog, I enjoy hiking, and love to be outside. I became interested in exotic animal medicine after three years of research with freshwater aquatic turtles at Freed Hardeman University, then after working for three years as the turtle rehabilitation program coordinator at Auburn University. I have a soft spot for small mammals, including Guinea Pigs and Mice after working as a student representative for Oxbow Animal Health, and I love reptiles.


Dr. Nikki Poole, DVM

My name is Nikki Poole. I was born in Owensboro, and raised between there and the family farm in Fordsville. My undergraduate degree is from Western Kentucky University, and my veterinary degree is from Auburn University. After graduating from AU, I moved to Wytheville, VA where I practiced at a mixed animal clinic for five and a half years. I currently have many pets: dogs, cats, horses, 1 sheep, snakes and lizards. My hobbies include dual sport riding, jogging, and anything else outdoors.



Kirstie Hagan, LVT

Kirstie is a graduate of Murray State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Health Technology. Kirstie first started volunteering at Kentuckiana Animal Clinic in 2011 and joined full time as a technologist 2015. Her professional interests are in exotic pets, fear free treatment, wound management, dentistry and providing overall excellent care to all patients. Kirstie lives in Owensboro with her husband Aaron and is the proud parent to two spoiled dogs, Goober and Milo and 4 cats, Rebel, Hamlet, Kairi, and Cookie. She enjoys helping coach and instructs color guard teams and spending quality time with friends and family.


Shelby Howard

Shelby is a graduate of Murray State’s Animal Health & Technology program with a BS in agriculture. Her professional interests are in laboratory diagnostics. Shelby joined the KAC team in September 2018 and is excited to help our clients and patients. At her home, she has a Chihuahua named Capone and is hoping to add a French bulldog to her family soon. In her spare time, Shelby enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors.


Rachel Bertke

Rachel lives in Beaver Dam on her small hobby farm. She enjoys horseback riding with her two rescue horses, Captain & Ruby. She is a huge fan of chickens and currently has a flock of about 20 along with her pig (Lilly), goat (Jenny), sheep (Willow), and Sky the donkey. She also loves spending “spare” time with her ten dogs: Denver (Corgi), Bandit (Chihuahua), Penny (Golden), Ralphie & Mollie (Aussies), Silas (Doberman), Maverick (Great Dane), Boudreaux (German shepherd), Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry (Great Pyrenees). Baloo (her lone cat) is always there to give snuggles. My favorite part of working at KAC is working with all the wonderful clients and patients as on big happy family! When possible I greatly enjoy assisting with orthopedic cases.


Felicia Payne, LVT

Felicia lives in Hardinsburg, KY with her husband, Dalton and their two cats Loki & BB-8. She joined the Kentuckiana family on June 2015 as and intern. Felicia graduated from Owensboro Community and Technical College in May 2016 with an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology. Her primary professional interests are rehabilitation and companion animal dentistry. In her spare time she enjoys doing photography and can usually be found kayaking, fishing, or just reading a good book.


Chelsey Dossett

Chelsey is a native of Sacramento, KY where she attended Grace Baptist School from kindergarten through 12th grade! She went on to Owensboro Community Technical College and graduated with an Associates in Applied Science for Veterinary Technology. Chelsey has two spoiled rotten dogs named Reagan & Riley. She has recently moved to Owensboro in March and is engaged to her fiancé, Derrick Ware. She is really happy to be a part of the team here at KAC and is excited to work with all the clients & pets of Kentuckiana.


Tara Groves, LVT

Tara Groves is a licensed Veterinary Technician from Philpot Kentucky. She graduated from Murray State University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Health Technology and has been a member of the Kentuckiana family ever since. The growing Groves residence consists of Tara’s husband James Groves, their sons Sawyer (1 year old) and Mason (due February 2019), canine companions “Ladybug” and “Rusty”, and feline companion “Monk.” Her professional interests are in neonatal care, positive reinforcement training, quality patient care, and client education. Tara’s favorite movie is Ace Ventura Pet Detective, and she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.



Sarah Nelson-McLamb

Sarah joined the KAC team in 2014 as an intern and kennel worker. She was part of the first graduating class from the Owensboro Community & Technical College Vet Tech Program and is now our Lead Client Service Representative. Sarah is originally from Evansville, IN but now resides in Owensboro with her husband, Stephen, and their four children, Logan, Luke, Jaclyne, and Landen. Their furry family includes four dogs (Rorie-Golden Retriever, Lokie-Fouche Terrier, Trigger-Blue Tick Coon Hound, Kiba (German Shepherd) and three cats (Bear, Ferdinand, and Caesar). Sarah enjoys building relationships with our patients and the people who love them. Sarah has a special interest in reproductive medicine and neonatal care and she plans to join the dog show world in 2019!


Beth Tanner

Beth is one of our CSRs with over 30 years of experience. Her family includes her husband (Greg), two daughters (Sarah & Rachel), one son-in-law (Travis), and two beautiful grandchildren (Sammy & Haven). Her and her family spend their time enjoying softball and volleyball. Beth greatly enjoys trips to the beach and spending time with her 8 fur babies.


Sherrie Hancock

Sherrie has been a receptionist for over 25 years here at Kentuckiana. She and her husband Greg have been married for over 35 years and they have one daughter, Leah. Their family currently has a pug named Dru who is 10 years old. Sherrie enjoys traveling to the beach, riding with her husband on his motorcycle, and spending time with her family.



Jenneci Mobley

Though having lived locally before, Jenneci comes back to us from Texas and became a part of the KAC team in March 2018. As part of the KAC family, Jenneci helps to care for all the boarded and hospitalized pets. She has two cats (Harley and Crookshanks) and a corgi/chow mix named Lulu. Although it's been a while since she lived here, she is glad to be back and looks forward to working with everyone and their pets each day.


Reece Mayfield

My name is Reece and I am originally from Lexington, Kentucky. I am so excited to be a part of the Kentuckiana team! Currently I am headed towards a Bachelors degree in zoology and plan to attend Auburn University for vet school. I have a special interest in exotics, equine, and reproductive medicine. My family raises German Shorthaired Pointers and I have two of them (Moses and Jemma.) I also have several pet chickens and Cayuga ducks, a hedgehog, and a lion head rabbit named Piper. I enjoy hiking, horseback riding, archery, and practically anything involving the great outdoors.



Sharity DeHart

My name is Sharity and I have been a pet groomer here at KAC since 2013. I always enjoy meeting all new people, catching up with our regular clients and working with all the pets I see each day. At home I am kept company by my three boxers (Ellie, Sheldon, & Walter), a parrot named Casey, and my husband, David! I greatly enjoy spending my spare time with family, going for walks, and anything I can do outdoors.


Corey Phelps

My name is Corey and I am very excited to be apart of the Kentuckiana Team! I have always had the heart to care for animals domestic and wild which has increased my need to further my knowledge on animal health. Also I am a proud owner of a orange female tabby cat named Sherbert and a black male lab/collie mix named Shadow. My hobbies are drawling, spending time with loved ones and going on adventures and trying new things.



Ben Bates, CVPM

Ben Bates CVPM, is our hospital practice manager here at Kentuckiana Animal Clinic. A native of Francisco, IN. he now calls Evansville home. He has been in the animal industry for about 16 years in various capacities such as animal control officer, kennel worker, veterinary assistant, receptionist and manager. He joined our Kentuckiana family in December, 2013. Ben has continually worked to improve and enhance the experiences our clients and patients have here at Kentuckiana Animal Clinic.

Ben makes his home with his beautiful wife and two gorgeous little girls that keep them very busy and going in all directions. Rounding out this energetic family is Conner, the German Shepherd, and Chaser, the 5 year old domestic shorthair cat. In his precious spare time Ben enjoys spending time with family and friends, photography, fishing and various other outdoor activities.
